Redmi Pad 2 Pro hands-on
Xiaomi held a major launch event this week, showcasing a lineup of exciting new devices. Among the highlights was the debut of the Redmi Pad 2 Pro, a tablet designed to deliver a premium experience at an accessible price point.
We had the chance to go hands-on with the Redmi Pad 2 Pro equipped with its Matte Glass display, and here are our first impressions of Xiaomi’s latest addition to the tablet market.
For its €380 price tag, the Redmi Pad 2 Pro Matte Glass Edition gives off the impression of a far more premium device. It features a sturdy aluminum unibody design that feels cool to the touch, adding to its high-end aesthetic. Weighing 610 grams, the tablet has a noticeable presence in hand, but not in a way that feels cumbersome. In fact, it comes across as lighter than you’d expect for its size, striking a nice balance between portability and durability. At just 7.5mm thick, it’s also impressively slim, making it comfortable to hold for extended use.
The Redmi Pad 2 Pro is equipped with a 12.1-inch IPS LCD display offering a 1,600 x 2,560 pixel resolution, a smooth 120Hz refresh rate, and a 16:10 aspect ratio that feels natural for both media consumption and productivity. The screen supports up to 600 nits peak brightness—not the highest figure in the tablet space, but still more than adequate for indoor use during our hands-on testing.
One standout feature is the matte textured screen, which does an excellent job of minimizing glare and reflections something especially valuable on larger displays. Complementing the viewing experience are quad speakers with Dolby Atmos support, delivering surprisingly good volume and a more immersive audio experience for movies, games, and video calls.
Taking a tour around the device, you’ll find the power button and two of the four speakers positioned at the top. One drawback here is the lack of a fingerprint scanner integrated into the power button—a surprisingly common omission among many recently launched Android tablets, and one that feels like a missed opportunity on a device of this caliber.
On the right-hand side, the volume rocker and microSD card slot are neatly placed, while the bottom edge houses the remaining two speakers, the USB-C port, and even a 3.5mm headphone jack—a welcome addition for those who still prefer wired audio.
Xiaomi has also prepared a range of first-party accessories for the Redmi Pad 2 Pro, including a flip cover, a keyboard case, and the Redmi Smart Pen stylus. The stylus supports 4,096 levels of pressure sensitivity, making it a useful tool for note-taking and creative work. Both the cover and the keyboard come with a dedicated holster for the stylus, ensuring it’s always secure and easy to carry when you’re on the move.
Powering the tablet is a massive 12,000 mAh battery, which, when paired with the efficient Snapdragon 7s Gen 4 chipset, should easily deliver long hours of use on a single charge. For recharging, the device supports 33W wired charging—not the fastest option in the market, but still quicker than what some rivals provide in this price segment.
When it comes to performance, the Redmi Pad 2 Pro felt impressively smooth and responsive during our initial hands-on testing. Everyday tasks such as web browsing with multiple tabs, streaming media, and multitasking all ran without a hitch, giving the impression of a well-optimized device. We’ll dive deeper into sustained performance and benchmark results in our upcoming full review.
On the software side, the tablet runs on HyperOS 2 based on Android 15, with Xiaomi already confirming that an update to HyperOS 3 will be rolling out soon. This means users can expect not only smoother performance over time but also new features and optimizations in the near future.
That wraps up our first impressions of the Redmi Pad 2 Pro. At this stage, it’s shaping up to be a well-rounded midrange tablet, offering a sleek design, a large and practical display, solid performance, and thoughtful extras like stylus support and a massive battery. Still, we’ll hold off on a final verdict until we’ve had more time to put it through in-depth testing for our full review.
