It’s Not Sleek, It’s Not Cheap — But the Pixel 10 Pro Fold Won Me Over Anyway

It feels strange to call a folding phone “old school,” but that’s the perfect description for the Google Pixel 10 Pro Fold. It’s thick, heavy, and unashamedly practical — the opposite of the ultra-thin, flashy designs we’ve seen from Samsung and other international brands. Yet, despite its lack of flair, the Pixel 10 Pro Fold has quietly become one of my favorite devices of the year. It’s not sleek, it’s not cheap, but it’s packed with meaningful improvements that make it a true daily driver for people who value reliability over novelty.

It’s Not Sleek, It’s Not Cheap — But the Pixel 10 Pro Fold Won Me Over Anyway

More Changes Than Meet the Eye

At first glance, you might think Google barely touched the formula from the Pixel 9 Pro Fold. But pick it up, and you’ll immediately feel the difference. The gearless hinge delivers smooth, confident motion — sturdy enough to inspire trust, yet effortless to operate. Without gears, there are fewer failure points, and it feels like a foldable built for the long haul. Combined with its IP68 rating for dust and water resistance, this is one of the most durable folding phones ever made.

Of course, durability comes at a cost. The Pixel 10 Pro Fold tips the scales at 258g and is noticeably thicker than competitors like the Galaxy Z Fold 7. But Google put that extra bulk to good use. The cover display has grown to 6.4 inches, making it far easier to type and use as a standalone screen. The Actua Display now reaches higher brightness levels, ensuring outdoor visibility under harsh sunlight. Inside, the 8-inch Super Actua Flex Display delivers a stunning 120Hz refresh rate and vivid contrast that makes every video and app feel alive.

Tensor G5: Smarter, Not Just Faster

The Tensor G5 processor inside the Pixel 10 Pro Fold is Google’s most refined chip yet. Paired with 16GB of RAM, the phone feels fast, efficient, and consistent — without the heat or power draw issues seen in early Tensor models. Gemini AI integration feels seamless, powering natural-language photo editing, contextual suggestions, and smoother multitasking.

Gaming performance still favors Snapdragon-based rivals like Samsung’s Z Fold 7, but for daily productivity, creative tasks, and photo editing, the Pixel 10 Pro Fold is rock solid. The Material 3 Expressive interface brings color, balance, and customization to Android 16 in ways no other brand matches. Google’s 90:10 multitasking split and simplified app pair setup finally make full use of the inner display — an essential fix for anyone burned by the original Pixel Fold’s lack of multitasking tools.

Battery Life That Just Keeps Going

The trade-off for the Pixel 10 Pro Fold’s heft is phenomenal endurance. Its 5,015mAh battery easily lasts two full days of mixed use, even with extensive use of the inner screen. This is the first book-style foldable I’ve confidently left off the charger overnight with over 60% remaining. Charging speeds remain modest at 30W wired, but the addition of Qi2 magnetic wireless charging opens up a range of new accessories, from car mounts to desk stands.

For users who prioritize longevity and reliability, this battery life alone might justify the Pixel’s weight. Google’s decision to favor endurance and stability over thinness feels refreshingly practical in a market obsessed with millimeters.

Classic Pixel Camera Quality

Google hasn’t reinvented the camera system this year — and that’s fine. The triple-camera array features a 48MP main sensor, 10.5MP ultrawide with macro focus, and a 10.8MP 5x telephoto lens. Results remain predictably excellent. The Pixel 10 Pro Fold delivers true-to-life tones, precise detail, and unmatched low-light performance. If you prefer slightly warmer, more saturated shots, Samsung still has the edge, but Pixel photography continues to set the bar for realism and dynamic range.

Durability and Comfort Over Flash

The Pixel 10 Pro Fold isn’t for everyone. It’s heavy, costs $1,800, and doesn’t chase the sleekness of its rivals. But for enthusiasts who love the foldable experience and want something that feels as sturdy as it is smart, this phone is a winner. Between its IP68 protection, superb hinge mechanics, two-day battery, and clean Android 16 experience, Google has crafted a foldable that feels trustworthy — one you can use like a normal smartphone without babying it.

It’s not sleek, it’s not cheap, but it’s the first foldable that truly feels ready for real life.
